MoneyGram - Refused Money Transfer to Terminally Ill Relative
On Sat at noon, we completed a Walmart to Walmart money transfer to my terminally ill brother-in-law in NC with MoneyGram. So I thought... At six PM, we found out from my brother-in-law there was a problem with the transfer on our end. So we went back to the Walmart in AL for 2 hours while the Walmart staff attempted, without success, to reach someone. All they got was a bunch of foreigners who would put them on hold indefinitely. On Monday afternoon, I was informed by my wife that there was a security issue with the money transfer. So I called their 800 number and spoke with several more foreigners who could barely speak English. After answering several personal questions about myself and my brother-in-law my money transfer was denied! Getting a refund was another challenge. They were quick to take my money but made me jump through several hoops to get it refunded. I would stay away from this company at all cost. My experience with this company trying to help someone in need was beyond belief!
Reason of review: Problems with payment.

I had made money transfers to the same person, using the same account, for several years. They abruptly closed my account and refused to tell me why.
They suggested if I wanted to send money, I would need to visit a moneygram location in person (all previous transactions were made online). I asked if the person at the moneygram physical location could tell me why my account was closed and was told no. I asked was THERE ANYONE who could tell me and was told no.
As far as I am concerned, they have done me a favor. I don't want to do business with such a ridiculous company, especially one that employs people who can barely speak English.
File a complaint with the Consumer Protection Bureau. Every state has a Department of Business Operations that oversees financial institutions and fines them when they break the law or act inappropriately. In some cases, they cease their business licenses.
